The mission of Franklin-Simpson Renaissance is to provide leadership and technical assistance in the revitalization effort of the downtown Franklin historic commercial district, utilizing the comprehensive Main Street strategy that employs organization, economic restructuring, design and promotion. Our vision is to re-establish downtown Franklin as an active, viable economic center for professional, retail, social and cultural activities.
Franklin-Simpson Renaissance is a non-profit organization based in Franklin, Ky. to stimulate downtown economic development, build leadership in the business community and to promote the downtown area. In 2007, Franklin received the Preserve America community designation.
in 2001, Renaissance worked to achieve the status of “silver city” for Franklin., in recognition of that status, Renaissance was awarded grants totaling $95,000 for facade work on a matching grant basis. Several local businesses participated in this program. The “silver-city” status also allowed Franklin to apply for set-aside funds towards such projects as brick sidewalks, pedestrian friendly crosswalks and wheelchair ramps, period style lighting and minor traffic islands.
Our “district” is generally composed of property within the boundaries of College Street, Madison Street, Main Street and Washington Street.
Every effort is made to preserve the integrity and significance of these remarkable buildings. Emphasis is placed on preserving the heritage and ancestral architecture in order that our future generations will be able to appreciate these structures.
There are several incentives for owners of historic commercial structures in downtown Franklin to rehabilitate their buildings. Learn more about the grants we offer on the "Grants" page.
